Portraits of Me on Vacation

Rarely do I get portraits of me taken, especially casual and fun shots. I really needed some updated shots of me and Italy seemed like a great place and backdrop to get some done.

There's so many birds in Piazza San Marco, it looks like a scene from Hitchcock's "Birds" movie. The pigeons are harmless and if you give them seeds or breadcrumbs, they swarm on you. This was actually fun.

Lina's Italy Vacation - November 20-30, 2006 / Part Three - Rome

The last destination on my trip was Rome, by far my favorite place in all of Italy. If you only have one place to go to in Italy, this is it. There's so much history, attractions, great food and great people in this city.

The first stop in Rome was my hotel, Hotel Adriano. I was so beat from the 5 hour train ride from Naples.
01_6

The next morning, I got up to do sightseeing and photography like every other tourist.
03_4

I took the city's subway to get my first major attraction, the Vatican. Unlike NYC subway stations, Rome's subway cars are bombed with grafitti.
02_4

The Basilica di San Pietro in Vatican City is by far the most magnificient church I've ever seen. I've shot amazing weddings in all of the most beautiful churches in NYC, but nothing compares to this.

When you step inside, you should be ready with a wide angle lens. Wide angle lens lovers are in paradise here.

Every inch of the church is filled with exquiste details; arches, sculptures, moldings, marble pillars, gorgeous paintings, ceiling decor, etc. You could spend days after days just absorbed in vast stretches of art decor in here. It never seems to end.

After the Basilica, I headed over to the Vatican Museum that houses the Sistine Chapel. This pic is of the entranceway leading into the museum.

One of my favorite paintings in the museum (there were so many that its hard to have favorites).

Every room in the museum is adorned with beautiful frescos.

The Raphael Salon Room. It houses some of the most important fresco paintings done by the great master.

The last exhibit on the way out was the the "Lacoon" sculpture. It is one of the oldest sculptures of beauty and realism (1 century B.C.) and was a huge influence on many of Italy's greatest sculptors such as Donetello, Michaelanglo, and Bernini.
20

Outside the Vatican, there were mimes looking to entertain and make money. Here's a mime painted in gold imitating an old school cameraman. I found it amusing and gave him 2 euros.
21_1

There's so many gorgeous churches in Rome. Literally every block has a church and all of them house some of the most beautiful art known in history. I spent a whole day traveling from one church to another just looking at the art and architechture. In the times of the renaissance, painters and sculptors did their best work in churches.

The Pantheon. It is the only building from ancient Roman times that is still intact. It is also where Raphael's tomb was discovered.

In Rome, there's lingerie shops on every block with gorgeous Italian designer lingerie that you can't get in NYC. Of course I shopped for some sexy stuff.

Lina's Italy Vacation - November 20-30, 2006 / Part Two - Capri

The next amazing destination on my trip was the island of Capri. Capri is an exotic island on the Amalfi Coast of Italy. It features gorgeous secluded and sweeping mountain views, adorable villas, lemon trees, and some of the most friendly and nice people you'll ever meet. I flew from Venice to Naples and took a boat ride from Naples to Capri.

The amazing view from the Piazza Umberto.

The hotel I stayed at, Hotel Christina. It was the only hotel open in November on the whole Island. My room had an amazing overlook view of the whole island.

C03

C04

One of the most famous exports from Capri is their very own Limoncello drink. It's lemonade that's super sweet and spiced strong with alcohol. I took a little sip and in the morning and it kicked in hard; a little too strong for me.
C05

On my first morning in Capri, I walked from my hotel to the pier to the Marina Grande harbor to take a boat ride to Grotta Azzurra, the island's biggest attraction.
C06

C07

Inside the Grotta Azzurra. The cavern is located inside a sea mountain and can only be entered by boat. Inside, sunrays enter from an opening under the water, creating a light refraction that creates a dramatic Mediterranean cerulean ambiance. Simply amazing.
C08

The next day, I went to the other side of the island, Anacapri. I took a chairlift to Monte Solaro to see the amazing views from this side of the island.

While I was on Carpi, I took advantage of the amazing landscape to do a fine art bellydance shoot. Look for pics from the shoot soon.

Lina's Italy Vacation - November 20-30, 2006 / Part One - Venice

Well, I know it's been awhile since my last post. The new year has had me soooo busy and I still have lots to post to finish off last year. In the next few days, I'll be posting alot just to catch up and they'll be lots of really exciting stuff. We'll start off with my awesome trip to Italy in late November.

My trip started off with my flight leaving from LaGaurdia Airport. I flew Alitalia and they were great. I carried my photo gear on my flight and I took a few pics from my window seat.

My first destination in Italy was Venice, one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. I arrived at Venice's airport, Aeoporto Marco Polo. The airport is actually 40 minutes away from the Venitian water city and you need to take a bus to get near the water. Once I got near Venice, I took a vaporetto water bus to my hotel. Here's some shots I took while on the vaporetto going down the grand canal.

I stayed at Hotel Colombino on the penthouse suite which has pretty nice views of the city.

Venice is famous for their custom masks and costumes and I admit that I shopped around for a nice mask. I will say that you have to financially prepared to shop in Venice. It's a very pricey city to shop and things here are even more expensive than NYC (but definately worth it because you can't find the stuff here anywhere else on earth).
V6_2

The exterior of the beautiful St. Mark's Basilica. The church is over 700 years old and its design was Byzantine ispired. The interior atrium was incredible (they didn't allow photography inside so I couldn't get a shot).
V7

Piazza San Marco. This is the heart of venice with many of its best shops, restaurants, and attractions nearby.

Alison & Geoffrey Engagement Shoot - November 19, 2006

Right before I went on vacation to Italy, I shot an amazing Engagement Session with Alison & Geoffrey in NYC. We had so much fun and the weather was great for the middle of November.

We started the session around the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park.

Winter Junior Art Showcase Reception at the Salmagundi Club - November 17, 2006

As most of you know, I'm an active member of the Salmagundi Art Club and I exhibit my fine art photography at their Greenwich Village galleries. Three of my recent pieces were accepted into their Junior Art Winter Showcase and I won an award for one of my pieces. I actually sold two of the pieces I had on display during the showcase. Here's some shots from the show.

After getting some fine art shooting under my belt with Akiko and Angelique, I was in full stride by the time I had this shoot with Janelle. Janelle is a talented NYC bellydancer and we created some great images from the shoot. Here's a few of my favorites.

Nataki & Olumayowa Engagement Shoot - November 12, 2006

Back in November, I shot engagement portraits for Nataki & Olumayowa in Central Park. It was really fun and we had a great time.

We had a great time and I'm looking forward to their wedding next year at Knoll Country Club in NJ.
